Here is another problem. When I get an email with a photograph attached
and click to download it, the browswer opens a window with nothing in it
and just hangs.

Instead of "_usr_bin_restricted-manager.1000.crash" check if there is a
_usr_lib_firefox_firefox_bin.1000.crash file in /var/crash. It should be
several Mb of size as it contains the firefox crash coredump file.

the above crashes resulted from clicking on a link that had an open
document file associated with the link. It is supposed to launch open
office when i do this but instead crashes the browser. it does it every
time so you should be able to duplicate it. hope this helps.
