Reviewing the files from your upgrade attempt you seem to have enabled the oibaf ppa. This will prevent the upgrade as that PPA contains different versions of packages essential to Ubuntu. Please revert to the official Xorg packages and try the upgrade again. ** Changed in: ubuntu-release-upgrade

Hi Jean-Baptiste, thank you for the quick reply, from the ppas I disabled the oibaf ppa, namely those two: http://ppa.launchpad.net/oibaf/graphics-drivers/ubuntu and http://ppa.launchpad.net/oibaf/graphics-drivers/ubuntu and tried again but got the same error. Did I maybe misunderstand your solut

Apologies to bug you like this, but could you be more specific on what needs doing to revert to xorg? On a regular note is this safe? I wouldn't want to get stuck on the terminal version only in case something goes wrong with the xorg drivers but I'm guessing the upgrade on top of that will take
