I think this is a regression at least for users migrating from gaim.
I'm attaching a patch that enables systray icon by default.

Is this a bug at all? Systray icon must be enabled from settings
(CTRL+P, Show systray icon - Always). Of course it could be enabled by
default...

Yeah that was my point... It isn't enabled by default. You expect it to
minimize when you close the window but instead quits, that to me seems
like a bug in the way you expect the program to work.
