The back button in the header is a missed target,
Personally I never had this problem. I asked around on irc, and in
addition to dpm's and om26ers replies above, I got:

< ahayzen> t1mp, i initially found that the back/tab button area was too far
left, but once i knew it was further across than i thou
I can confirm that too.
Also something similar happens on the other side: right-side actions in
the header are often difficult to tap: they either tend to be missed or
the last action on the right tends to activate the right edge. I'm told
the latter is bug 1320863
