most likely this is an IO error possibly due to disk or network issues
try
apt-get clean
apt-get install -f
apt-get install --reinstall python-scipy

I followed the instructions but keep getting the same error.
It's not a big deal, I have installed scipy using pip and this package was
there because of a previous installation attempt.
I will check my disk for erros anyway.
