Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-image-2.6.22-9-generic

My computer won't boot without the "irqpoll" kernel parameter. This bud
is present in Feisty liveCD and installed system, and it's still exist
in Gusty LiveCD and installed and properly updated system.

My config is the following:
-Abit AB9 mobo: i965 ICH8R + a JMicron controller for the PATA.

The problem might be with the SATA or PATA modules, becouse the kernel posts
messages slower and slower about ata0 ata1 ata2...
then the following error message comes up:

check root=bootarg car /proc/cmdline or missing modules, devices:
cat/proc/modules ls /dev
ALERT! /dev/disk/by-uuid/..... does not exist.
dropping to a shell

Then i'm dropped to a stripped busybox shell.
With the "irqpoll" boot option, the system boots flawlessly.

note: Archlinux managed somehow to make new motherboars like i965 w JMicron
boot flawlessly about 0.5 years ago. Maybe they have some patch or kernel
config to look at.

** Affects: linux-source-2.6.22 (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
