@samquad A similar thing happened to me a few months ago. IIRC KDE had
changed either ~/.gtkrc-20 or the GTK3 equivalent in ~/.config/gtk-3.0/
(I can't remember the full filename, I'm writing this from a Mac). Just
delete the problem file or remove/change KDE's modifications.

A better workaround than manually modifying files in /usr/share/themes
is to install and use the gnome-color-chooser tool. See the askubuntu
link in comment #3 for details.
