At some point (forgot to write it down) setting INSTALL_DEVICE made
grub-install work for me, but this might be unrelated, i.e. forget about
the environment variables if they doen't influence the program.
Maybe a hint to `info grub` could be added and that it is necessary to
read through it in ord
