So strange but I retried it now and it works fine...
I'm on a laptop with Gutsy upgraded from a Feisty two days ago
hicolor-icon-theme 0.10-1ubuntu1
libgtk2.0-bin 2.11.6-1ubuntu3
Dont know what it happened...
May be I could close the bug

i cannot reproduce this bug, all works fine here, which version of
hicolor-icon-theme and libgtk2.0-bin do you have.
