nfs gets properly restarted in intrepid now. If samba doesn't honor the
proper hooks then its a samba issue imo.

I use Hardy, samba 3.0.28a-1ubuntu4 now. but still have this issue.
Only one difference is:
network manager scenario:
1. [manually] ip changed to static
2. some minutes later samba send to
- WINS server *NBNS Regiostration reguest* for _old_ ip.
+ broadcast *NBNS Regiostration reguest* for

With which version of the samba package are you seeing this? There have
been recent upstream changes to nmbd to change its interface detection,
so this issue may be fixed in hardy.

since this is a network-manager bug, I would like to look at network-
manager only now. Can you please disable all interfaces in
/etc/network/interfaces and observe if this works/not works with
network-manager alone?

i made some test. etc/network/interfaces working not properly in some
other way:
network manager scenario:
1. [manually] ip changed to static
2. some minutes later samba send to WINS server *NBNS Regiostration
reguest* for _old_ ip.
Have you considered to use /etc/network/interfaces instead of network
manager for your device?
