Similar to this, xserver-xorg-video-ati.1.6.6.193-1ubuntu1 caused my
screen to appear scrambled and unable to navigate through Gutsy.
Downgrading to xserver-xorg-video-ati.1.6.6.3-2ubuntu6 and reconfiguring
x temporarily fixed the problem.

The system starts perfectly no more initial black screen and computer
freeze. Works on both pcs...
other than compiz, glxgears works fine. Tried Chess that used to work
and now crashes when asking for 3d view. and Blender 2.44 seems to work
fine...

dnprossi, apart from the compiz issue, is the driver working ok? For
instance, does glxgears run fine?

Mark, you have a 9500 card which is quite different than the X700, so
please make separate bug reports. Fastwrites are disabled by default,
but in some versions they were just turned off unconditionally.

I have EXACTLY the same issue as dnprossi with the same symptoms and
similar software configuration. There is no way to get to kdm KDE login
window, just black screen and no activity at all... Ctrl-Atl-Cancel
useless... Computer freezes..., just like for dnprossi.
I am using Kubuntu gutsy

Hi,
My radeon driver crashing issue is now solved by doing the following:
1. Upgrading my xorg-ati driver from xserver-xorg-video-ati v1:6.6.193-1ubuntu1
to v6.7.191-1ubuntu2
2. changing Option AGPFastWrite true to Option
AGPFastWrite false in my xorg.conf file
Maybe only
Have the same problem, I'm only using the live-cd haven't been able to install
it yet. After booting I get a blanc screen and the computer freezes. I have a
x1300 ati card in a acer aspire 5600.
I'll have a look for the xorg.0.log and will attach it later on

That was fast. Thanks.
Tried on both computers and got same results.
Systems boot up fine now but compiz-fusion went nuts. Had to disable
Desktop Effects.
Background went black, moving windows on desktop color background with
zoomed version of themselves, all compiz functions don't work at
