Same problem with HP5370C scanner.
When starting a scan in Xsane, the entire X session crashes. There seems to be
no relation with the scan settings.
The scanner is prepared for scan, then at the moment the scan would start (and
data transfer would start, I guess) it's over.

I have the same problem with an HP 5370C scanner. Sane-find-scanner reports:
found USB scanner (vendor=0x03f0 [Hewlett Packard], product=0x0701 [Hewlett
Packard ScanJet 5300C/5370C ]) at libusb:004:006
and scanimage -L produces either no scanners were identified or, if I
detach and re-attach
to me it works fine at 150 and 300 but hangs at 600.

Sorry it's been so long.

I am running into this issue--but only at 300 dpi. 150 dpi completes the
scan and 600 dpi completes (but takes forever). I've not been able to
complete a 300 dpi scan. I've tried to take steps to include needed
information. Please let me know if you need anything else. Thanks.

Can you describe the steps you've followed to reproduce this issue ?
Can you provide the following informations:
* Can you provide the output of the command : lsb_release -rd
* Can you provide the output of the command : apt-cache policy xsane
* If it's an usb scanner, please run the command sudo
Does XSane crash or does it become unresponsive (ie. hang) ?
Please try to obtain a backtrace following the instructions at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProgramCrash and upload the backtrace (as an
attachment) to the bug report. Use ctrl+c in gdb to halt execution if it is a
hanging issue
For me, it hangs - the windows stay in place, but don't refresh properly
if other windows are brought in front of them; you just end up with dark
rectangles where the scrollbars are. It's the same as with other GTK
apps that become unresponsive.
I'll try to get you a backtrace soon.

I've got the same problem here - what information do you need?

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been
any activity in it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue
for you? Can you try with latest Ubuntu release? Thanks in advance.
