I tried it again today:
This time I removed the nvidia gfx drivers cuz I read that this might be
the problem:
So I did:
sudo apt-get remove --purge nvidia-*
sudo apt-get install kubuntu-desktop
sudo rm /etc/X11/xorg.conf
echo 'nouveau' | sudo tee -a /etc/modules
After a reboot I was on nouveau
So - I tried it now with my production pc.
Same result.
Started with the upgrade of my trusty 12.04.5 LTS
Upgrade:
- was disabling old repos = ok
- Enabling new repos ... and then = error message
(I have to translate from german to english sorry)

I was setting up now a new 12.04 client and installed 5 repos and after
that 5 software packages. (just for testing) On this virtual machine I
did not get an error message during upgrade. I will try that soon on
another (but real) machine with ~ 20 repos and hundreads of software
packages from rep
I think the problem came from the many repos I had acivated and the many
programs I had installed from them. But I reinstalled just a new system
cuz this was a testing system anyway to see if I will uprage my main
maschines the same way.
So I will setup a new machine with 12.04 - setup some repos,
