I have successfully resolved this.
I had to apt-get remove libkrb5-3 (which removed Postgres 8.3, but no
problem for me), after that, the upgrade went smooth.

Same issue attempting to upgrade from 12.0.4.2 to 14.04.1.
Any possiblitlity that this error could actually log what the issue is
