Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: alsa-utils

I'm currently running gutsy tribe 5. I had some of the same problems on
feisty though.

I've got an asus a8n-sli delux motherboard with realtek alc850 8channel
onboard sound. I have a 5.1 speaker set. The ubuntu setup installed 2
drivers. The alsa nvidia ck804 and the OSS ACL805 rev0.

After a fresh install normal stereo sound works fine but when i start to
configure it for surround sound it all goes wrong. I've tried many
solutions but i just end up no where.

I've run the alsa speaker test (speaker-test 1.0.11rc) and all the
speakers work.

My ~/.asoundrc contains the following:

# for 5.1 speakers
pcm.ch51dup {
         slave.pcm surround51
         slave.channels 6
         type route
         ttable.0.0 1
         ttable.1.1 1
         ttable.0.2 1
         ttable.1.3 1
         ttable.0.4 0.5
         ttable.1.4 0.5
         ttable.0.5 0.5
         ttable.1.5 0.5
}

1. When I set the alsa mixer to duplicate the front speakers the middle
speaker does not work. I checked the volume is up. (This i got to work
in feisty)

2. The master volume control is only linked to the 2 front speakers.

3. When I duplicate the front speakers and the Shared Jack Mode setting
is on Independent my sound turns full treble. As i turn down the the
master volume (which only effects the front speakers) the bass returns.
The same happens when i turn down the surround volume control.

4. When I duplicate the front speakers and the Shared Jack Mode setting
is on Shared my microphone jack at the back of my box stops working. The
mic jack at the front of my case front one keeps functioning.

I have some more sound problems in gutsy but I don't think they have
anything to do with alsa.
