I have a similar problem. After boot it works, screen is shut-off after
configured time-out. But after a few hours it stops working. Screen is not
shut-off after time-out. Manually using "> xset dpms force standby/suspend/off"
always works.
Currently using Ubuntu 8.04, but I have had this proble

This happens on Hardy, 8.04, with the latest updates as of 03/19/2008.
My settings are 10 minutes for screensaver, 15 minutes for monitor to
sleep. Hours later, the screensaver is still active.

** Description changed:
I'm using Ubuntu 7.04, in the gnome environment in the power management I set
to put the display in sleep mode after 6 minutes. This worked until i activated
the screen saver.
The settings are:
- screen saver after 5 minutes
- monitor in sleep mode after 6 min
