Yeah - I've been given the same laptop to fix for sound and just
upgrading to 8.10 and 9.04 has done nothing to solve the problem.

Hi Steve,
Care to attach an updated dmesg output for Hardy. Also care to attach
the output of 'sudo lspci -vvnn'. Please attach each file separately.
Thanks.

I can't say for certain that I tried oss but I tried a lot of things
over a couple of days. I don't have access to that laptop as it was a
friends, but if I do I'll upgrade it to hardy when that's available and
let you know if anything changes.

Did you try both alsa and oss and neither works?

Yeah - in Gutsy just couldn't get it to work - ended up buying a usb
sound adapter like this one:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/USB-Audio-Adapter-Microphone-
Jack/dp/B000Q5VKMQ/ref=pd_bbs_1?ie=UTF8s=electronicsqid=1207768216sr=8-1
which works fine

So are you still interested in this bug?
If so you could try if your sound works with Hardy Live CD.

Hi, Adam. I am indeed still interested in this bug. I have been
running Feisty, and the sound does not work with that one. I downloaded
the latest beta of Hardy this morning and tried that, and unfortunately,
sound does not work with that version either.
Cheers!!

Thank you for your suggestion. I tried adding acpi=force and it still
did not work. I did a cheap workaround by purchasing a $4.95 USB sound
device from Amazon; this works OK, but not great.
Thanks!!!
