As Matthias has noted, this package exists to provide a minimally
functional cross-compiler for bootstrapping. It is not supported by
Canonical as a general-purpose cross-compiler for Java.
Unassigning from the taco-screen-team, but leaving this bug open as a
valid wishlist bug.

what is your use case to cross build gcj applications? The current use
case is to provide a gcj cross compiler which is able to cross-build
gcc-4.9. This works, and using gcj natively on ppc64el works as well.
