Hi Brian,
although that may be the case of some users, I can state that it is not
mine. I already had the main server preset as default. I updated 14.05 a
few times and tried to update the distro to 14.10: I am still getting
the same error. So, in some cases it may be the mirror, in others, not.
Changing repositories worked for me too. Must be some kind of sync
issue.

I resolved this by changing from the Australian Repository to the Main
Repository.
When I did an update there, I picked up a bunch of updates that where not on
the Australian repository.
I was then able to upgrade all of the systems I attempted. I have successfully
done 5 to date.
