@Rune there is an official icedtea-8-plugin package in the Xenial
repositories. It probably would be better to backport that version, than
to use mine.

I didn't actually need version 8.
So I just upgraded my icedtea-7-plugin with the icedtea-7-plugin from Maarten
Fonville's PPA.
Maarten Fonville's version worked.

some reason stopped working when I upgraded from 15.04.

packages for openjdk8, based on the earlier mentioned repository and the
current ubuntu icedtea package.

icedtea-netx icedtea-netx-common packages from the temporary repository
(http://87.98.165.193/debian/repo/) out of date.
It would be really nice if at least vivid development could update the control
