I can confirm this problem in Hardy. I am using the linux-
image-2.6.24-17-generic kernel and my autofs mounts disappear when I
hover over them in Nautilus (as it tries to count the contents I bet).
If I revert to static NFS mounts then things work as expected.

Sorry, I was mistaken.
After one reboot the mountpoint still exists, but after a second reboot, it
disappears again.

I can confirm denny479s result.
After upgrading from 7.04 to 7.10 (Feisty to Gutsy) I had this problem too.
With the /usr/sbin/automount from Feisty the automounting works in Gutsy well.
However, I wonder why denny479 had problems after having upgraded from
dapper->feisty, and in my gutsy the auto
