Public bug reported: The Optiplex gx150 is a standard Dell 800Mhz with a intel 815 video chipset using latest A11 bios.
After a slow buggy bootup Ubuntu 7.10 tribe 5 finally boots up. The screen is corrupt but is fixed by pressing ctrl+alt+backspace. To install Ubuntu 7.10 tribe you need to press ctrl+alt+backspace again to make the sample directory and install link appear on the desktop. Ubuntu uses the i810 video drivers for the i815 video chipset. In resolution 1280x1024 faint vertical lines appear about every 1 inch. Bug reported elsewhere. (Note at this stage this is the most stable the system has been, and that has been able to boot. Previous version 6.06 and other versions of Ubuntu 7.04 including Xubuntu, Ubuntu also have sluggish slow loading. Now if the system is updated via the web the x.org drivers cause a thick black horizontal line to appear on the desktop in all resolutions. Bug reported elsewhere. Now more updates are made from the web, now the system booting takes a long time and eventually locks up displaying ata1.00 over and over with different messages. I have also seen this reported The system is duel booting with window xp pro sp2 with no problems, so there are no hardware issues. I found that the 815 driver is open sourced by intel http://support.intel.com/support/graphics/intel815/ so I think the driver needs to be reviewed. I'll add more info as I experiment more with the system. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- optiplex gx150, slow booting and video problems https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/140879 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
