I think this describes the same bug as described in

Actually I am still experiencing this on Ubuntu 16.04.3 LTS (Kernel

Ok, crash happened again in 3.13.0-45-generic.
Unfortunately there were no errors recorded.
The symptoms I noticed, happen in this order;
1) Mouse, and keyboard start experiencing high latency periods.
2) Shutdown windows 7 running in VMWare Player v7.0.0
3) Linux system completely locks up,
I was getting ready to install updates, when I ran into this problem for
a second time. I'm pretty certain that this has something to do with
VMWare Player's kernel modules. For the second time, I was shutting
down VMWare Player when the crash happened.
I'll update the kernel, and report back
Did this issue start happening after an update/upgrade? Was there a
prior kernel version where you were not having this particular problem?
Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer
to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest
