Just weighing in to say that other Linux based systems like Openelec
(even on the Raspberry Pi) has this capability to discover and browse
NFS shares on the same network. And not just NFS but SMB and AFP as
well

with hardy and if not, what should be done (in what package) to improve

I'm sorry, I was talking about samba. I meant that it got much easier in
Hardy to share folders with it.

May I ask how you are "browsing" NFS shares? There is no applet to do
so, there is no way to enter NFS:// into the nautilus bar, and there is
no choice for NFS under the Places -> Connect to.
So how are you browsing without first mounting manually?
