I think our machines are quite different but I got gutsy up and running
on a HP Pavilion 6525sc. I got working sound, direct rendering with 90
FPS in games etc. Maybe you should post more details about the computer,
like what graphics card do you have?

Gusty didn't install either. It hangs at Setting System Clock.
Video is nvidia however in most cases, the installation halts even
before GDM is started. I figured posting the processor type would be a
lead.
