Did not notice, but has there been a kernel update in between? The issue
seems to be fixed on my system...

Nothing else done by me to get the issue fixed,
I'm having similar issue. I'm on 3.19.0-15-generic kernel but boot with
systemd fails. I tried 4.0 mainline kernel (linux-
image-4.0.0-04-generic_4.0.0-04), with which system booted but I
cound not see lightdm prompt, only [ok] messages are shown. Though I can
switch to other terminal
I think I'm having the same issue. I'm using xorg-edgers, but that still
shouldn't crash the kernel DRM I guess.

Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer
to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest
v4.0 kernel[0].
If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following
tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.
If the mainline kernel does not fix
4.0 doesn't have this issue, I can confirm this

Can you see if this issue occurs with the Ubuntu 3.19.0-11 kernel? It can be
downloaded from:

It can be installed by installing the following two packages:
linux-image-3.19.0-11-lowlatency 3.19.0-11.11
