While I was preparing to update bios I noticed that there were 2 settings for
touchpad in the bios menus. Mine was set to advanced so I set it to the
first option and booted. The touchpad now works. You have my apologies for the
incorrect bug report.

As per http://us.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/drivers an update to your
computer's buggy and outdated BIOS is available (1.10). If you update to
this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it
change anything?
