My original problem with occasional 'compiz lag' was due to the poor
performance of the 'On Demand' feature that is default with cpu scaling. I
did a sudo dpkg-reconfigure gnome-applets after i placed the cpu speed
applet on the panel. That allowed me to turn up the juice and i haven't had

I really think its an compiz bug, disabling the compiz animation plugin
fixed it.
I had the same issue with Ubuntu Edgy and compiz, but never with beryl.
Also I have the same effect when using an ATI x800 based video card and
radeon or fglrx video drivers.

I have the same problem on my computer, however, it usually occurs when
I get back on my computer after having been away from it for a while
(several hours); it almost always freezes in such circumstances and does
also occasionally freeze when I'm in the middle of doing something. I'm
not sure wha
I have just tested it with compiz turned off. Apparently its a generic
thing. I have attached a little python program that causes the behavior.
When you mouse over the menu, everything should freeze for 10 seconds.
