Update:
The issue can be replicated on either the 2.6.10-15, or the 2.6.10-16
kernel if the network connection is changed during the suspend when then
machine is in stasis.
Example:
1) Machine is working fine with various applications open, sometimes (but not
always) including evolution with a

I've installed and am running the 2.6.20-15.27 kernel has no issues
so far. 5 suspends in a row; including suspending while attached to an
external monitor. Must have been the 2.6.20-16.31 to 2.6.20-16.32
update.

The nVIDIA-glx package via Restricted Drivers Manager (Ubuntu
version).

I dumped my 2.6.20-15 kernel a while ago. I've been running 2.6.20-16
for a long time. I noticed the problem immediately (the "next" suspend)
after the following updates:
