This affects me, too. I'm running Kubuntu 8.10. I will try and upload
some logs soon. The RANDR disable still works.

issue for most people; if not please feel free to reopen with the
requested information, and if possible please test against the latest
development version of ubuntu.

The crash only appears with ati driver = 6.7.19*, but there was no
randr 1.2 support in the earlier versions. I'll try to do a clean
install to see if the problem appears here as well.

The first steps are these:
try to reproduce this bug (the xorg,conf attached should work according that
you have said, then you probably should reenable Randr) and next post the
xorg.log and kdm.log of the problem. If you are able to start manually kdm
(from command line) reproducing the bug,
But, I forgot that part of this log is sent to syslog file.

Please install all updates for Gutsy and then try if this is still an

Here is my xorg.conf, I'll post soon my Xorg.0.log.old but I don't think
it's going to be very useful, what is the best way to debug kdm?(the kdm
-debug option is rather confusing).
