Here is the glxinfo for DISPLAY=:0.
Strangely, they work now. Also the glxgears, though very slowly.
I have not changed any settings, only installed automatic updates.
The trash can etc. came back as well. Is it possible that one earlier update
messed up something which got corrected by a later
