We are closing this bug report because it appears to no longer be a
problem for the submitter. If you want you can submit a seperate bug
regarding the sun-javaX-plugin not detecting the conflicting
icedtea6-plugin.
Thank you for your help and don't hesitate to submit bug reports in the
future.
You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it
recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue for you. Can you try with
the latest Ubuntu release? You can get a Live CD at:

Thanks in advance.

no more exists
I tried the package sun-java6-plugin and it works.
One problem is that, if it is installed with icedtea6-plugin, java
applets won't load in browser (only a gray rectangle no notice). The

Is this symptom still reproducible in 8.10 RC or later?

Well this package does no more exists in Intrepid.
Going to a simple java applet page.
The information bar asked me to install gcjwebplugin that managed to
run the simple applet. (http://acestgratuit.free.fr/paysage.htm)
But not some others like: http://acestgratuit.free.fr/java/artifice.htm
Ok seems it is sun-java6-plugin or sun-java5-plugin
But not available for 64bit arch in Intrepid.

I can confirm it too.
Running from the Gutsy livecd on X86_64 I could not get the icedtea-
java7-plugin to work (See bug #152362).
A manual install of j2re1.4-mozilla-plugin did not work either, but
copying the file libjavaplugin_oji.so from /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins to
/usr/lib/firefox/plugins
I can confirm it.
On Gutsy, Firefox 2 don't use plugins in /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins
Please add a link to /usr/lib/firefox/plugins in the package to avoid
this problem.
