Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xrandr

I have a shuttle xpc with a on board ATI Technologies Inc RS480 [Radeon Xpress
200G Series]
the xpc was a VGA output that I have connected to a DELL 24'' wide screen
1920x1200
and a DVI port that I have connect to HDMI HDTV with 1080i support.

If I have the VGA cable plugged to the xpc, the xrandr resolution
detection works as expected.

But if I plug the DVI cable to the xpc box, to have dual screen, xrandr
does not detect a new monitor.

And if I start the xserver again I get the resolution of the HD TV I get image
on both screens,
but only the HDTV is displaying with a good resolution.

I'm using ATI drivers.
If I use the open version for ati chipsets and I plug the VGA and DVI cable I
get no image on both screens.
If I plug the VGA I get a strange resolution if I use the VGA cable, I did not
try using just the DVI cable with the OSS
driver.

I someone knows a work around about using a onboard ati card with dualhead
configuration,
with the latest ubuntu gutsy, please drop me a email.

Feisty was even worse, both using the OSS and same ati drivers.
I was never able to have the DELL screen at 1920x1200 and the HDTV and
1920x1080 with bigscreen.

only VGA cable is plugged:
