I have also this problem with large fonts and icons in VirtualBox
controler, but inside virtualbox windows.

I also noticed a change when I went from Feisty with the PUEL version
from virtualbox.org to the Gutsy with the OSE version. Here's a
screenshot from Gutsy.

OK, they no longer look horrible (anti-aliasing is in effect now), but
still too large. See the attached screenshot.

And another, with subpixel smoothing turned on an ruining the VBox
screen (while it clearly improves the rest of the system).

Ah, OK, I figured out what the problem is; virtualbox-ose depends on
libqt3-mt to give it its 'look-and-feel' For some reason, that's not
configured in the same way that regular KDE apps (e.g. konqueror) are in
Ubuntu. If you install qt3-qtconfig and run qtconfig you can change
the fonts,
