I have had the same problem and boy am I vex. I spent a lot of time getting my
desktop just how I wanted it.
I downloaded the last set of updates and pow! my beautiful 3d cube desktop is
broken.
It initiates on logon ok bu as soon as I try to rotate the desktop it just
reverts to a non-3d,
Note that the fix suggested in the forum thread I posted above seems to
solve the issues about Compiz crashing immediately when the cursor
touches the screen edge. That fix involves disabling screen edge action
bindings for the Rotate Flip Right and Rotate Flip Left. However,
even after disabling
Surely the point of the matter is that you shouldnt have to disable anything
that you had running before an update.
My desktop was fine until that last 59 package update and since then (please
see above)

Yeah, Expo and Scale work fine with key bindings (Super + 'E' and Shift
-Alt -Up). It seems specific to the screen edges causing the crashes
now.

I dont have to go anywhere near my screen edges. One revolution of my
mouse wheel crashes it. (The mouse wheel is what I use to rotate the
cube.)

It's doing it with Wall as well, specifically when Edge Flip DnD is
activated, so it seems specific to screen edges. I'm sure a fix is in
the works.

I wouldn't be so sure. One thing I notice happens when it trips out is
that System/Apperance/Visual Effects gets reset to none anytime it
happens. Setting it back to custom brings everything back however any
attempt to rotate the cube, either by mouse wheel, cursor left or
right+ctrl+alt, or
Run update manager. It's repaired. Thx for the quick fix Ubuntu-Dev's.
