It would be great if it works like the side-pane in gEdit aka Text Editor -
part of the text is hidden followed by
Along with the provision to fully slide the pane to the border like in
Nautilus, so that F9/Ctrl+T need not be pressed every time

The gedit way impose a limitation, I'm not sure that's better for the
users, what is wrong with having the choice to truncate the text if you
want to move the sidebar? Would you prefer to not let the option to
user who would like to use it?
