Public bug reported:

The Mozilla Firefox Web browser is still listed as a "hard dependency"
of ubuntu-mate-core (i.e. trying to remove it also removes the
metapackage). Although the metapackage is safely removable, having apps
hard depend on it is generally bad practice.
