steps to reproduce:
1) open system settings > network > network proxy
2) change mode to manual
3) enter socks host "localhost" and port 12345 as in screenshot
4) click on apply system wide
5) the authenticate dialog appears, press cancel 4 times
6) open browser and go to any website, chrome and fi

To
yes the changes are applied. after pressing 'cancel' 4 times my public ip
address changes to the one of my proxy.
(I am using ssh -D 12345 to connect to my proxy)
