* Grab the kernel and ABI version from the Package name we're building,
so only control needs to be fiddled.
* Run depmod -A on install.

You are right, but it should have failed also for i386 (because I've not
adjusted the directory in one place).
I've spent some more time on it and will attach a new debdiff in a few
minutes.
You may want to build upon that one, if it's any good.

Evidently, you didn't try and build it - it blows up badly building the
modules for i386, but not amd64. I ran out of time yesterday, but I was
planning to spend a little time looking at it today.
