Public bug reported:

I have a problem with audio cd playback on my computer. I'm using Ubuntu
7.10 64bit beta but the bug is just the same with 7.04 32bit (same
computer).

With every program that uses gstreamer like rhytmbox, exaile, sound
juicer and others apps cd playback has buffer problems, the song start
with strage noises like scratching on a vinyl disc, then the song plays
normally, these noises get worse if I skip forward or backward manually,
they usually last for a couple of seconds but sometimes the song plays
badly even in the middle without me skipping manually. If I extract the
song with sound juicer the noises are exactly the same when I play the
mp3/ogg file.

In xmms cd playback is flawless, even if I set the cd plugin to digital
and not analog playback, it's slower to start but the song plays without
problems. Same thing with Vlc, perfect result.

I came to the obvious conclusion that it's gstreamer, I have dma on and
IO set to 32, actually ubuntu does that by itself I haven't modified
anything.

My comp specs are:

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-K8N51GMF-9-RH http://www.giga-
byte.co.uk/Products/Motherboard/Products_Spec.aspx
?ClassValue=Motherboard&ProductID=2294&ProductName =GA-K8N51GMF-9-RH

Athlon64 processor, 1g of ram, Nvidia 7300gs video card

cd/dvd: HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-4160B on primary master which means dev/hda

/dev/hda:
IO_support = 1 (32-bit)
unmaskirq = 1 (on)
using_dma = 1 (on)
keepsettings = 0 (off)
readonly = 0 (off)
readahead = 256 (on)
HDIO_GETGEO failed: Inappropriate ioctl for device
