Yes I am confortable enjoying installing packages and sometimes compiling

The Ubuntu Kernel Team is planning to move to the 2.6.27 kernel for the
upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release. As a result, the kernel team would
appreciate it if you could please test this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel.

Actually, im having the same problem as well, didn't work the "echo 1 >
/proc/acpi/video/*/DOS" command, i thought it worked, but it did not. Hope
that new release fix this problem.

I forgot, it's 7.10 beta up-to-date till right now.
By the way, i just close the lid and open it in 2 secs and get freeze again, i
dont know what is really going on with this beta version.
