I had the same issue. To fix I did sudo apt-get purge boinc sudo apt-get autoremove rm -r .BOINC rm -r .BOINC\ Manager rm BOINC\ Manager-myusernamexyz I rebooted. then: sudo apt-get install boinc-manager Instead of launching boinc, I launched boincmgr. I think this made a difference.
