I'm sorry! The problem I reported above was my fault. I didn't re-run NVidia's binary driver installer after the upgrade. Apparently, the "still-installed-from-Feisty" third-party-driver-installation became broken during the upgrade. Of course, if anyone else were to blame for this, it would be

I confirm a problem when trying to run any windowed program in wine, including winecfg : X is totaly frozen : no keyboard (so no way to switch to a console), no mouse of course. But the system answers hibernation commands, so the kernel seems to be still responding. Running XFCE on a i386 -- W
