Christopher, on Ubuntu 16.04, the problem with the backlight decided easy for
this recipe:
create a file named 20-intel.conf
sudo touch /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.conf
opened it for editing
sudo gedit /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.conf
insert lines
Section "Device"
Identifier "card0
Anatoly, to see if this issue is limited to the GNOME environment, could
you please test for this via http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-
live/current/ and advise to the results?

then edit the file "brightness"

it only works: echo 8 > /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness

Christopher, I tried the kernel (4.5-rc3). The result - the backlight is not
adjustable. I think the problem is not in the kernel.
I use Ubuntu Gnome, but more than a month ago, I installed the MATE
environment, right at the gnome, then Gnome and MATE mixed up, but surrounded

Did this issue start happening after an update/upgrade? Was there a
prior kernel version where you were not having this particular problem?
Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer

The problem is that the slider move, but brightness doesn't change.
This command decreases the brightness:
echo 8 > /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness
