Reinstalled everything from scratch:
Cut a long story short: This is a problem with Lightning 0.5 64 bit
Edition.
Thunderbird crashes regularly and reproducibly when Lightning is
installed. It runs fine regardless of the language settings.

Additional information:
Thunderbird shows date format in US notation. I need German notation. In
order to get that I installed thunderbird-locale-de.
Thunderbird crashes it both thunderbird-locale-en and thunderbird-
locale-de is installed in parallel.
Removing thunderbird-locale-de fixes the cr
