I am not sure if it is a Ubuntu bug since I had this issue with Feisty and Gutsy. Could you recheck it with Windows? Btw. it is not possible to shut down hard disk with eject since remounts it all the time and unmount doesn't eject it. OK, it seems to shut down after some time without
