I think all of them. It used to work perfectly in my old, USB2-based
laptop; tested with Ubuntu until 14.10. But in the new laptop (which I
got in early 2015), it almost never worked fine with any Ubuntu version.

Maybe. Though, to be honest, I'd say the scanner works worse now than it
did some time ago. Now I cannot even get the first operation to work.

Upgraded to version 1.0.26-git20160712-yakkety0, as in
https://launchpad.net/~rolfbensch/+archive/ubuntu/sane-git. Same result
as a year ago: there is no physical response by the scanner.

Edit: the workaround above only seems to work sometimes. Most of the
