That might not be the same bug. I did get a loading screen but black
after that. Do you get the same kind of errors in the gdm and xorg logs?
I tried to fix the problem by deleting all leftover Nvidia things I could find,
but no luck. I ended up doing a clean install after taking a final back
I got the exact same error. I'm very new to Linux so I don't know to
help you correct it, but I do know that I got that black screen
immediately after I installed Ubuntu Gutsy Gibbon (no modification at
any level, just a simple, standard installation with the language set to
Spanish).

I suspect it to be left-over trouble from the proprietary drivers. Is
there any problem when you run the 7.10 live cd?

Yes, I have been using propietary drivers earlier. Both the nvidia-glx-
new under feisty and a driver that came from the nvidia website. The
driver from the website was uninstalled. (Was quite some time ago)

Yes, you can try to reinstall packages with: apt-get install --reinstall
package
And use the locate command to find files with for instance nvidia in the
name. Maybe you have stuff in /usr/local?

I don't get why you have the freetype errors. Have you been using
proprietary drivers earlier?

Here is the Xorg.0.log.old file. It contains the info when X is looking
for the correct values. The logs I posted earlier were logs from the
failsafe X.

Hmm that debconf value was correct. Can you try deleting
/etc/X11/xorg.conf.failsafe?

You can probably fix this by running sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-
xorg and setting the correct keyboard layout.

(++) Using config file: /etc/X11/xorg.conf.failsafe
Can you attach /etc/X11/xorg.conf.failsafe please?
It's running /etc/gdm/failsafeXinit for some reason.
For other developers:
From the gdm.log
/etc/gdm/failsafeXServer: line 47: [: för många argument
this means too many arguments
I think line
Yes I modified it myself, for testing purposes. There is no difference
in using pc105 or se. I'll switch it back and test again just to be
sure.

This looks strange in xorg.conf:
Option XkbModel pc105
Option XkbLayout pc105
The XkbLayout should be for instance se. Did you modify that file yourself at
any point?

The Xorg.0.log is exactly the same, including the following lines:
(**) Option XkbModel pc105
(**) Generic Keyboard: XkbModel: pc105
(**) Option XkbLayout pc105
(**) Generic Keyboard: XkbLayout: pc105
Isn't that strange? I changed the XkbLayout in the xorg.conf file...
I'll try to run without
