Yes, I did restart after upgrading, but no change.
What I also did was install the Mozilla version of Firefox 2.0.0.8, and
the problem is now solved. It also didn't happen with the Ubuntu version
of Firefox under Feisty, using the exact same set of extensions. So it
appears to be unrelated to any
i noticed that you have a bunch of extensions installled. try to run
firefox in safe-mode (without extensions) and if that helps try to track
down the bad extension by disabling extensions one-by-one in the Tools
-> Addons dialog.
to start firefox in safe- mode you have to open a terinal and type:

To be specific, I did an apt-get upgrade to Gutsy using the Update
Manager, so all profiles, extensions and so on remained as they were in
the working installation under Feisty.
