Same thing with firefox-3.0 on 8.04.1 (Hardy). The fix then becomes (as root) :
# cd /usr/lib/firefox-3.0/plugins/
# ln -vs ../../mozilla/plugins/kaffeineplugin.so ./
Note : /usr/lib/firefox-3.0/plugins is a symlink, as shown below
# ls -l /usr/lib/firefox-3.0/plugins
/usr/lib/firefox-3.0/plugin
With Hardy I have got the same problem, which I solved with
sudo ln -s /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/kaffeineplugin.so
/usr/lib/firefox/plugins/kaffeineplugin.so
